Lyrics
Laughter of the Babe
©2015 Julie Parisi Kirby
As the bombs were raining down a babe was born
And in the silence of the night you heard it crowing with delight
At the coming of the dawn
And the wind heard its laughter and it carried 'round the world
In the morning all the birds took up the song
They remind us to be free, all we have to believe
Is the laughter of a babe at the dawn
Well no one knew from where the baby came
And no one knew the color of its skin
But as they heard that joyful sound, they took a long hard look around
and they knew that the baby had to live
So 'round the world, hand in hand, a choice was made
They would not allow one more child to starve
Not another bomb would drop, no more poison in the crops
They would save the laughter of the babe
And the wind heard its laughter and it carried 'round the world
In the morning all the birds took up the song
They remind us to be free, all we have to believe
Is the laughter of a babe at the dawn
